Happy Spooky Month! It’s the best month of the year (finally)! Thank you to everyone who came to the meeting and to all those who weren’t able to attend, we missed you! 

What is DOC NC? 

• DOC NC, or Dedicated to our community of North Carolina, is a local non-profit that raises funds for a different organization each year. In the past, we have fundraised for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle, Duke PBMT, and the Suhanee Foundation. You can visit docnc.org to learn more!

September Recap:

• Raised $2,707! 
• September 26th – Indian Creek Trailhead Litter Sweep 
  • We had over 10 bags of trash picked up!
• Sustainability Promotion Videos – look out for those! 
• September 19th – Field Trip to Phillip Farms 
  • Learned about how they farm their corn and sunflowers. We were able to enjoy the scenery and the fun activities they had.

Upcoming Events (in chronological order): 

• ToM Art Project (Submissions due 10/8/2021)
  • Art project where kids from grades K-5 are encouraged to participate! The winner will get a banner of their art hung out in Town Hall.

• October 11th, 2021 – Field Trip to the NCSU Solar House (look out for signup details)
• October 13th, 2021 – DOCNC w/ Cedar Fork Community Center Aftercare Students
  • Teaching a lesson plan on recycling. Hoping to do this with other sustainability topics. 
• October 24th @3pm – DOC Talk on the fast fashion industry and sustainability
  • A monthly discussion on different topics to further our knowledge on them. These discussions are about 30 minutes to an hour. Will send more details with a zoom link and access to resources as we get closer to the date!
• October 27th @4:15pm – Halloween Costume Contest at Cedar Fork Community Center
  • 4-5 members will run a booth and ask students to create costumes from recycled materials! 
• DOCNC Newsletter (end of October)
  • Communications team is working on this! 
• Collaboration w/ Town of Apex
  • Town of Apex would like DOCNC to collaborate with them in various events such as the Earth Festival as they are planning it in its beginning stages. They want us to specifically plan activities geared towards the younger generation.
  • They are also in search of volunteers to help with their community garden 
  • Finally they would like to hold a Tree Archive where they spend a day planting different trees and enjoying music outside. They want us to help with that as well.
• DOCNC Talent Show (Date – TBD but November)
  • The acts will surround sustainability and ALL members are encouraged to participate! There will be 5 winners, who will each receive a $100 gift card.
• December 5th, 2021 – Holiday Party 
  • DOC NC will be holding an annual holiday party in December so please be on the lookout for that! We will have guest speakers from the Town of Apex.
